The Apostles' Creed

I believe in God, the father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended inot hell.
On the third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Holy Catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Lord's Prayer

(The Our Father)

The Lord's Prayer, also known as the Our Father, was composed by our Lord Jesus Christ Himself. This magnificent prayer beautifully reflects the wishes of its Divine Author. Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount (pictured above) where it first appears in the Gospels (Matt 6:9-13): “When praying do not choose many words” (Matthew 6:7).

In other words, quantity doesn’t necessarily mean quality in your prayer life, especially if you’re not being sincere! We can marvel that the Lord's Prayer sums up what we need from God (and what He wants from us!) so succinctly:

Our Father,
who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Traditional version

Hail Mary, full of grace.
Our Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

The newer version

Hail Mary, full of grace.
Our Lord is with you.
Blessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Grace Before Meals

Prayer for the Sick

Dear Jesus, Divine Physician and Healer of the sick, we turn to you in this time of illness.

O dearest comforter of the troubled, alleviate our worry and

sorrow with your gentle love, and grant us the grace and

strength to accept this burden.

Dear God, we place our worries in your hands. We place our sick under your care and humbly ask that you restore your servant to health again.

Above all, grant us the grace to acknowledge your will and know that whatever you do, you do for the love of us.

Amen.

Prayer for Travellers

May the Lord Jesus be

With us to defend us,

Within us to keep us,

Before us to lead us,

Behind us to guard us,

Above us to bless us.

And we ask this through the same Christ, our Lord

Who lives with You and the Holy Spirit, One God forever and ever.

Amen

IN TIME OF DROUGHT

O God, Lord of creation, by whose power the whole earth came to be,

look upon our parched land, we pray,

and bestow upon it abundant rain,

that pastures, fields and paddocks

may by your goodness thrive once more.

Through Christ our Lord.

IN TIME OF BUSHFIRES

Hear our prayers, O God, for the efforts to

quench the fires that rage our land; and,

sustaining our spirits, keep us from all harm

and give success to the work of our hands.

Through Christ our Lord.

Plenary Council Prayer

Come, Holy Spirit of Pentecost.

Come, Holy Spirit of the great South Land.

O God, bless and unite all your people in Australia and guide us on the pilgrim way of the Plenary Council.

Give us the grace to see your face in one another and to recognise Jesus, our companion on the road.

Give us the courage to tell our stories and to speak boldly of your truth.

Give us ears to listen humbly to each other and a discerning heart to hear what you are saying. Lead your Church into a hope -filled future, that we may live the joy of the Gospel.

Through Jesus Christ our Lord, bread for the journey from age to age. Amen.
